Jewish Warsaw is a trip, during which you will learn the history of Warsaw Jews and the sites related to it. Before World War II the Warsaw Jewish community was the second largest after New York.

Description:

During the tour you will see places, which for years were associated with the Jewish community of Warsaw and those connected with the dramatic history of World War II: the surroundings of Grzybowski Square, along with the Nozyk Synagogue, the Jewish Cemetery, the surroundings of the Polin Museum, former Nalewki St.

Discover the places related to the history of Warsaw Jews:

  • around Grzybowski Square, the only place in Warsaw, where you can still feel the atmosphere of the Jewish Warsaw: the synagogue, pre-war buildings of Prozna St and the Square,
  • sites where the ghetto rising leaders perished, including Mordechai Anielewicz of the ZOB and Pawel Frenkel of the ZZW,
  • the commemorations the ghetto in the contemporary city,
  • places connected with Janusz Korczak, director of two Warsaw orphanages, educator, writer, faithful to his ideas until the end,
  • Jewish Cemetery and the most famous persons buried there,
  • the place where the “Gesiowka”, a German Nazi concentration camp in Warsaw, was located and the history of its liberation,
  • St Augustine’s Church, which in post-war photographs resembles a sailing ship crossing a sea of rubble,
  • commemoration of the “Pawiak”, the largest political prison in the Poland occupied by Nazi Germany,
  • monuments commemorating the history of the Ghetto, Umschlagplatz – the place from which Jews were transported to death camps, the Warsaw Ghetto Heroes and Martyrs Monument, the Ghetto Memorial Route of Jewish Martyrdom and Struggle,
  • former Nalewki St, one of the “most Jewish” in the prewar Warsaw.
